The title character of this French drama is the sole female employee aboard an ocean freighter called the Fidelio. She loves the rootlessness of seafaring life, in part because it provides her with an excuse to have lots of casual sex, though her situation grows complicated when the ship's new captain turns out to be the man she once considered her true love. Lucie Borleteau, making her feature debut as writer-director, presents their intense sexual relationship graphically yet perceptively; this is that rare movie in which the characters' lovemaking actually reveals things about them. Borleteau is no less astute in depicting the work aboard an ocean freighter; the movie has as much to say about life in the globalized economy as it does about eroticism. In English and subtitled French, Norwegian, Romanian, and Tagalog.
