Live Bait Theater presents its ninth annual showcase of one-person performances. The event features work by an array of well-known fringe artists--among them David Kodeski, Stephanie Shaw, Susan Karp, and Edward Thomas-Herrera--as well as a crop of emerging talents, including real-life police officers involved in Live Bait's Police-Teen Link program.

The Fillet of Solo Festival runs through August 14. All shows take place in the Bucket space of Live Bait Theater, 3914 N. Clark. Tickets are $10 per show and can be purchased by phone at 773-871-1212 or online at For more information, check

Solo Sampler

Monologuist David Kodeski, known for his "True Life Tales" series, hosts an evening of short solo works. Tonight's bill features Mary Fons, Cavan Hallman, Susan Karp, Stephanie Shaw, and Dan Telfer. The performers in this solid showcase offer ten-minute pieces, each as meticulous, human, and articulate as the next. Columbia College student Hallman turns the evening upside down in his bewildering, beguiling piece; a mesmerizing and idiosyncratic performer, he skillfully manipulates ambiguity to render confusion tantalizing.
