First-Rate Soup Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Saturdays. Continues through Feb. 11 2012

When Ron Bieganski was ousted from his position as artistic director at youth-mentoring Free Street Theater last March, creative director Anita Evans resigned in solidarity. "Nearly all of Free Street's 18-member primary ensemble of teen actors elected to follow them out," reported the Reader's Deanna Isaacs, "and are working with them to try to launch something new." NeuroKitchen Arts Collective is the something new they came up with. In this first public effort, they take the hierarchy of needs theorized by psychologist Abraham Maslow and attempt to embody it in monologues, music, and movement. The result may gratify and educate the participants. But I found it hard to sit through 80 minutes of familiar teen issues presented at a learner's-permit level of proficiency. —Tony Adler
