Flamenco soy

While Spain's flamenco culture—singing, dancing, and guitar playing—has long been transmitted around the globe, this 2000 video documentary by Dominique Abel captures a more intimate learning process, examining an extended family in Granada. Dancer Manuel Santiago Maya (“Manolete”) and his cousin, singer Jaime Heredia (“El Parron”), give their daughters grueling yet loving lessons in their respective arts, an experience that not only binds the clan together but infuses vitality into a generations-old tradition—it's clear that flamenco runs deep within the young women's blood. The performance footage is generous. In Spanish with subtitles. 60 min.
