Flight of the Dodo Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Feb. 22 2009

Robert Kauzlaric and Victoria Delorio's musical version of Peter Brown's whimsical book manages mostly to engage its primary audience, kids. But it's a bore for adults. Oh, the folks at Lifeline try their best to include everyone, packing the production with puppetry and clever costumes (designed by Kimberly G. Morris), witty set and prop pieces (Chelsea Warren), and an eager, energetic, likable cast. But the underlying story--about a penguin, an ostrich, a kiwi, and a cassowary who yearn to fly--is weak, slow moving, and, at times, unfocused. Even the kids get a little restless when the story stops dead while the characters talk and talk (and then sing and sing) about what they're going to do instead of just frigging doing it. --Jack Helbig
