Foreign Correspondent

Alfred Hitchcock was still playing it safe with this 1940 feature, his second American film. In typically Hitchcockian manner, Joel McCrea, an American reporter on assignment in prewar London, finds himself involved with a Nazi spy ring and Laraine Day. This film contains one of Hitchcock's most famous set pieces—an assassination in the rain—but otherwise remains a second-rate effort, as immensely enjoyable as it is. 119 min.
