Four Times That Night

This broad 1972 sex farce from Italian horror specialist Mario Bava blends the swinging Euro-chic of Blowup, the decadent buffoonery of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and the narrative ambiguities of Rashomon. A first date between a handsome playboy and a curvaceous woman is seen from multiple perspectives. In the woman's version, she's a reticent virgin and he's a predator. In his version, he's the shy one overcome by her seductive wiles. A voyeuristic doorman sees the couple as polymorphous perverts. A Rorschach-mad shrink (the director's alter ego?) gets the last word. Bava serves up plenty of soft porn while keeping his own tongue firmly in cheek. In Italian with subtitles. 83 min.
