Fox & Obel

401 E. Illinois

Last year, Fox & Obel's daylong Choctoberfest left me with a stomachache for nearly a week. This year the extravaganza has been scaled back to fewer vendors, stretched over two days. This Saturday, from noon to 4 PM, truffle masters Joseph Schmidt, Dutch confectioners Marich, and purveyors of ridiculously rich "drinking chocolate" Schokinag are on hand with free samples while Gale Gand promotes her new book Chocolate and Vanilla; the Fox & Obel kitchen will be cranking out her luscious recipes all day. If you're really intent on not fitting into your clothes again, you can go back Sunday for treats from dark-chocolate masters Scharffen Berger and Seattle-based Fran's Chocolates, as well as more from Schokinag.
