Old Town School of Folk Music

4544 N. Lincoln

773-728-6000

The Old Town School of Folk Music is always looking for volunteers, especially during its annual Chicago Folk & Roots Festival, July 14 and 15 in Welles Park. Stamp hands, collect cash, or pour beer: you'll earn points (each worth $4) for every shift, which you can cash in for concert tickets or classes (33.5 points will buy you an eight-week class). Points vary with the task; members of the festival's All-Star Clean-Up Crew pull the most. Every festival volunteer gets a T-shirt, snacks, and water--plus you get to hear the likes of the Knitters, Bettye LaVette, the Hot 8 Brass Band, and Grupo Fantasma for free. To sign up or learn more, contact Melissa Mallinson at 773-751-3337 or mmallinson@oldtownschool.org.
