Frida Kahlo: A Ribbon Around a Bomb

Appropriately enough, the subtitle of this 1991 documentary by Ken Mandel about the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo comes from surrealist Andre Breton's description of her work. Using Kahlo's self-portraits as a starting point, this hour-long film includes some discussion of the autobiographical aspects of Kahlo's paintings as well as excerpts from a play about her by Abraham Oceransky.
