Bill Murray, angling for that second Oscar nomination, supplies the voice of Jim Davis's sarcastic house cat in this big-screen adaptation of the durable comic strip. The cat is computer generated, as are his one-liners (“I love the smell of apple and cinnamon in the morning,” he declares while making off with a pie). The rest of this is live-action, featuring Breckin Meyer as Garfield's long-suffering owner, Stephen Tobolowsky as the villain, and, for the dads in the audience, Jennifer Love Hewitt as a veterinarian who favors miniskirts. Peter Hewitt directed. PG, 80 min.
