Gauntlet Hair, Caveman, Prussia, Like Pioneers 18+ Early Warnings (Music) Member Picks Recommended Soundboard

When: Fri., Jan. 13, 9 p.m. 2012

New York City five-piece Caveman sounds perfect for rooftop summer hangouts in Brooklyn—the haze of pot, the warm Tecate, the blissful laziness. The type of indie rock these dudes cozy up to includes sleepy, echoing guitar riffs and vocal melodies that camp out smack in that patch of sun-warmed grass where James Mercer, Justin Vernon, and Isaac Brock overlap. But the band's recent debut, CoCo Beware (ORG), is peculiar and spooky enough to command your full attention—not just a bit of gentle, contented head nodding as the music washes out into the streets of Bushwick, never to cross your mind again. One of the poppy Shins-tweaked songs, "My Time," segues nicley into the chilling, haunted-castle instrumental track "Vampire," and solid cuts like "Easy Water" ooze the same kind of creepy serial-killer cool that the Black Heart Procession has mastered. —Kevin Warwick This show is part of Tomorrow Never Knows.
