Gay Is the New Black Member Picks

When: Saturdays. Continues through Aug. 2 2014

There are certain things political wins don't make any easier, and dating is certainly one of them. The LGBT characters in this sketch musical are firmly lodged in the hell of mundane complications that constitutes dating life—that is, when they're not dreaming about what's next on the "diabolical" LGBT agenda after marriage equality. The show takes us on a tour of mixed signals, failed flirting, unhelpful wingmen, brazen cheaters, gold diggers, ennui, and sexual incompatibility—the last of which occasions an unforgettable two-man performance, "Young Bottoms in Love," with wiggling singing butts. Some skits felt too sappy for a comedy revue, some left me cold, but as we follow these folks around on "Funday Sunday" from bottomless mimosas to Boystown barhopping, it's clear that, all else being equal, what's next for them is simply, inexorably Monday. —Jena Cutie
