Gear Works 2011 Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through March 27 2011

Of the three new one-acts presented by the Consortium Project, Jaimie-Lee Wise's Cartographers shows promise. The plot is a convoluted mess, but Wise has a budding voice for lyrical dialogue. Somewhere under his cokeheads, ghosts, supernatural twists, and mixed metaphors he has something to say about our fixation on memories. The other two pieces are more forgettable. Amy Whittenberger's Rotten Couch Potatoes is an overwritten dark comedy about a mentally unstable couple living vicariously through a Law and Order-esque crime show, and Eric Hack's Coup offers a by-the-numbers murder story. Together, they add up to more than three hours of decent young actors finding their footing in works still very much in development. --Dan Jakes
