Generation Sex Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: May 31-June 14 2014

Teatro Luna's collection of stories explores love and sex in today's digital world, bravely tackling issues that would make many blush or squirm in their seats. Ranging from date rape and kinks to a significant other lost to Candy Crush Saga, the show feels like an emotional roller coaster. It's not that the entirety of the modern female experience isn't worth exploring—bits on the Diva Cup and Vulcan sex were not just cute but thoughtful and well executed. Yet the show wraps with chilling stats on the condition of women around the world and a stomach-curdling overlay of the recent California shooter's misogynistic rants, which makes earlier comedic bits feel trite. Perhaps we can only solve the larger issues between the sexes by starting with the smaller day-to-day ones, but this creative work would benefit from a more cohesive structure and tone. —Marissa Oberlander
