Genius Without Borders: A Symposium in Honor of the Genius of Ray Charles

The Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College presents Genius Without Borders: A Symposium in Honor of the Genius of Ray Charles. Events, which take place at Columbia’s Film Row Cinema unless otherwise noted, include a talk by critic Stanley Crouch; a panel of Charles’s band members featuring trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, drummer John Bryant, and Raelette Dr. Mable John; a keynote address by David Ritz (Sunday, 1 PM, Hilton Chicago), who coauthored Charles’s autobiography, Brother Ray; and a tribute concert (Saturday, 7:30 PM, Harold Washington Library) by the CBMR New Black Music Repertory Ensemble. Two-day registration is $175 ($135 seniors/students), partial registration $100, $45 ($25 students/seniors, $5 Columbia students) for the Saturday tribute concert only.
