As those Christmas videos of burning logs prove, flame has a magic all its own, and this Marvel Comics adaptation is aided by its hero being frequently on fire. Played by Nicolas Cage, he's a motorcycle stunt rider who strikes a deal with Mephistopheles (Easy Rider star Peter Fonda) and, to hold up his end of the bargain, must periodically transform into the title character—a skeleton in biker leathers with flames licking off his skull—and track down the devil's prey. The story doesn't arc so much as unspool like a stretch of desert highway, but the Ghost Rider is such a powerful amalgam of hot-rod iconography that this is still fairly watchable. Mark Steve Johnson (Daredevil) directed his own script; with Eva Mendes and Sam Elliott. PG-13, 114 min.
