Girls, I Do Adore Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays. Continues through Nov. 17 2011

Rubber-faced E.J. Caillouet shows range, grace, charm, and courage in this one-man "memoir comedy" about a boy and his penis, assuming roles that include the boy, the penis, a creepy high-school counselor, and a sweaty preacher. But Caillouet the writer has saddled Caillouet the performer with a shapeless collection of vignettes, all presented in a brutally difficult form I'll call second-person monologue, in which one character addresses others who don't appear onstage. ("What, Momma? You say I don't appreciate you? Momma, I do appreciate you! What, Momma? You say. . . .") If there's a way to make this work, director Rachael Mason hasn't found it. --Dan Weissmann
