My God! My God! There it is right on your front page ["Our Favorite Things," Back to School Special, September 21]: "How do we love Chicago? Here's [sic] 40 ways to start." Who wrote that? Who proofread it?

The use of "here's" (or "there's") when a plural noun follows is not just an acceptable colloquial alternative. It is flat-out wrong. As wrong as can be.

Of course what you want here is "Here are 40 ways to start."

Can we expect an apology from you?

Philip Lindquist

PS: You really made a great selection of favorite things.
