Godspell | Chicago Reader

Busby Berkeley comes back as Richard Lester. John Michael Tebelak's musical stage play succeeded with an unlikely melange of vaudeville, pranksterism, and Holy Scripture, with a vestigial plot about the crucifixion tacked on at the end. The film is by Britisher David Greene, with assists from composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz. It's the counterculture with a G rating (1973).
