Gone Dark Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 22 2015

This world premiere of Stuart Bousel’s “immersive vampire hunter tale,” presented by Otherworld Theatre under the direction of Tiffany Keane, offers site-specific scares with scenes set throughout Epworth United Methodist Church. Old, dark, and decidedly creepy, it’s a spot-on backdrop for a tale of forbidden love and faulty alliances revealed at the 1899 reunion of a society of vampire hunters. Gathered from around the world (with accents of varying accuracy), the hunters are rocked to their core when society member Ned Dalton (played by a charmingly vulnerable Brendan Stallings) reveals the death of Eugene, a recent initiate and son of a legend in the field. As scenes and characters are rendered unreliable, punctuated by sporadic but potent action sequences, a twisty tale, more talkie David Mamet than trashy True Blood, takes shape. —Marissa Oberlander
