Ensembles from Spain and Mexico join local Latino troupes in the Goodman Theatre's first-ever showcase of readings, performances, and discussions in both Spanish and English. Coordinated by Henry Godinez, the fest features work by Chicago's Teatro Vista, Aguijon Theater Company, and Teatro Luna as well as Mexico's Certain Inhabitants' Theatre and Spain's Compania Marta Carrasco. The Goodman Latino Theater Festival runs July 7-20 at the Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn. MONDAY, JULY 7

Opening Night Celebration

This private event features a discussion by festival director Henry Godinez and Mario Ernesto Sanchez, founder of the International Hispanic Theater Festival in Miami. 6 PM; by invitation only.

TUESDAY, JULY 8

La casa de Bernarda Alba

The Aguijon Theater Company remounts its 2002 production of Federico Garcia Lorca's classic study of sexual repression. The performance is in Spanish. 7:30 PM; $5-$9.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9

The Maria Chronicles

Teatro Luna performs a staged reading of its most recent work in progress, a comic oral history of the media's representation of Latinas. The show is performed in English. 7:30 PM; $5-$9.

THURSDAY, JULY 10

The Messenger

Teatro Vista performs a staged reading of a comedy about the disappearance of opera star Enrico Caruso during a 1920 engagement in Cuba. The play, adapted from a novel by Maura Montero, is presented in English. 7:30 PM; $5-$9.
