The Goose Island Wrigleyville, located in the shadow of Wrigley Field, has the look and feel of something that's been ridden hard and hung out to dry: the lacquer is chipped, the handsome wood floors are marred with deep scratches, and random, interesting stains mark every surface. Not that it matters -- the people still come in droves. If you must, and I cannot imagine why you would, drink the beer and eat the wings. The latter are passable examples of the genre: crispy, spicy, meaty, and accompanied by a choice of dunking sauces. The rest of the menu is standard pub grub: chicken, burgers, pulled pork, and the like, i.e., the exact same thing you'll find at two dozen or so similar places ringing the ballpark. One interesting side note: the menu lists a market salad, based on whatever fresh, local ingredients are available. On a recent visit, it was spectacular: shrimp and peaches (local, in this case, must mean within the same hemisphere), both grilled, with onion and tomato in a lime vinaigrette. Needless to say, on game day, Goose Island is strictly for amateurs. Stay away at all costs.
