Gordon's War

Rated R 90 minutes

This totally unbelievable 1973 feature about black vigilantes out to break the Harlem drug traffic displays the same fatuous moral attitudinizing that mars most of the neofascist Fun City crime flicks of the period. Characteristically, the thesis is that blood by the bucketful must be spilled to purge society of its evil predators. Paul Winfield does a B-plus imitation of Sidney Poitier, and director Ossie Davis rips off plot and atmospheric details from The French Connection. Stomach turning rather than stomach wrenching.
