CLOSED. South Loop local offering decently done Irish standards alongside the usual pub grub.
I have no idea why its named for a 16th-century pirate queen, but Grace O'Malley's is something of an oasis on a once deserted stretch of South Michigan: with its soaring cathedral ceiling and numerous beers, stouts, and ales one could while away many a pleasant hour here. Authenticitys not the order of the day, and some of the novelties really ought to be avoided--Irish nachos, for example, put corned beef atop greasy chips, cheddar cheese, bland salsa, and all the other usual suspects in a nacho goo fest. But the Guinness-and-cheddar soup had a notable hoppy tang, and lamb lovers will want to try the cottage pie loaded with gamy meat in a rich and spicy broth. Corned beef and cabbage comes in Brobdingnagian portions that mock normal appetites; there are also shepherds pie and bangers and mash.
