Green Music Fest Recommended All Ages Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard Image

When: Sat., June 20, 12 p.m. and Sun., June 21, 12 p.m. 2015

The Green Music Fest is back in Wicker Park to embark on its annual quest of promoting ecologically friendly living via two days of outdoors indie rock. On Saturday the festival’s main stage at Damen and North is headed up by down-home alt-country acts Shovels & Rope and William Elliott Whitmore, with Dutch artist Jacco Gardner playing a spaced-out set of psychedelia prior. Sunday’s main man is Bay Area pop-rocker Mikal Cronin, who’s out supporting his brand-new orchestral-indie album MCIII. Support includes young country singer Lydia Loveless and Athens-based indie rockers Futurebirds. Perhaps the most popular Green Music Fest activity that encourages you to shrink your carbon footprint—and get some well-deserved exercise in the process—is the bicycle-powered stage, which has become a weekend fixture. Pump the pedals on the side of the stage to provide juice for bands like Banditos, Sol Cat, Grasstronauts, and Vamos. And as if you didn’t already know, parking at the fest for nonstationary bikes is plentiful and free. —Luca Cimarusti
