In the lecture "Guilty! Rethinking the Haymarket Trial—125 Years Later," historian Timothy Messer-Kruse (author of the recent book The Trial of the Haymarket Anarchists: Terrorism and Justice in the Gilded Age) will talk about the trial of eight anarchist leaders following the 1886 bombing of Haymarket Square. Using new sources, Messer-Kruse will argue that our understanding of both the trial and the defendants has been distorted over time.
