Hang Your Hat at Mister Kelly's Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through May 24 2014

Mister Kelly’s supper club ruled Rush Street from the 50s through the 70s, and Three Cat Productions' new musical revue (book by Jarrin Davis, original music by Gary Gimmestad, lyrics by Rob Dorn) resurrects its top-tier talent and intimate atmosphere through the eyes of a former employee. The framing story, set in a present-day retirement center, is flimsy and forgettable, but the musical performances of old standards are outstanding—especially hypnotic, velvety Nicole Michelle Haskins as Ella Fitzgerald in "S’Wonderful" and effervescent powerhouse Sara Reinecke as Barbra Streisand in "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home." Combined with glamorous costumes, the strong vocals reverberate around the appropriately cramped cocktail tables, giving an imaginative glimpse into a piece of history. —Marissa Oberlander
