Cool, cerebral, and finally portentous, this 2007 French drama stars Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) as a smooth corporate psychologist who proudly relates how his motivational exercises make grown men weep and bellow with rage. When a high-ranking company executive asks him to spy on the increasingly erratic CEO (Michael Lonsdale), the shrink learns more about the firm—and himself—than he'd like to know. Director Nicolas Klotz paces his mystery plot so luxuriously that it feels like a ride in a company limo, though his ultimate thesis, that corporate culture is inherently fascist, hardly seems worth the trip. The saving grace is Amalric, who looks so sharp in a tailored suit that he can't sense himself rotting from within. In French with subtitles. 140 min.
