Hearts of the West

A situation without a story. The background (Hollywood's Poverty Row in the 30s) is nicely drawn, but the characters seem to be there just to fill the space. Jeff Bridges once again musters his boyish charm as an aspiring writer of western novels who unintentionally ends up as a cowboy star. Andy Griffith, Donald Pleasence, and Alan Arkin contribute some funny cameos under Howard Zieff's direction, but the project lacks shape and finally works only at isolated moments (1975).
