Heaven Video Series

A lively grab bag of 17 videos, most by Chicagoans. Several of the better pieces reflect on our dangerous fascination with looking and being looked at: In J. Cookson's Surveillance Report—Enduring Search and Seizure a man delivers a street-corner lecture on surveillance cameras and Fourth Amendment violations. Chris Bors's enigmatic I Win! (2000) features a bunch of odd characters dancing and declaring, “I win . . . nobody found me.” In Meateaters (2001), Dan Dinello takes an amusing look at some Bears fans grilling meat and cavorting for the lens outside Soldier Field. Kent Rayhill's black-and-white 3 Naked Sins parodies exploitation film trailers, with exaggerated close-ups and a voice-over touting “a twisted tale of three girls raised in the gutter.” And a found video, Winnebago Guy (1996), compiles profanity-filled outtakes from a motor home commercial (after the bumbling actor finally gets his line right, he adds, “Do you believe any of that shit?”). 76 min.
