Hello Failure The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Mondays-Wednesdays, Sundays. Continues through July 6 2014

Six women whose husbands have been deployed by the navy gather for a support-group meeting; meanwhile, a seventh holes up in her bathroom, having conversations with a visitor she believes to be the spirit of Civil War-era submarine engineer Horace Hunley. Not much else happens in Kristen Kosmas's 95-minute one-act, which serves primarily as a monologue-delivery system. Speeches alternate between self-consciously arty and self-consciously quirky, but the results are aimless and colorless—more like puttering around than playwriting. Adam Webster's staging shows signs of life only in fits and starts. The cast are good at playing on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown stuff, but they haven't figured out how to convey melancholy without seeming completely drained of urgency. —Zac Thompson

Price: $20, $15 for students and seniors
