Henry V Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 20 2011

Laurence Olivier famously used this Shakepearean history play, with its climactic underdog victory at Agincourt, to stoke British patriotism during World War II. But Kevin Theis's bland, flat, spiritless Oak Park Festival Theatre staging is unlikely to inspire anyone to do anything except leave the show early. Building on his performance as Prince Hal in last month's OPFT production of The History of King Henry IV, Dennis Grimes makes a riveting Henry V. And Melissa Nedell is sweet and funny as the French princess, Katherine. But most of the other performances utterly lack the sense of urgency you'd expect from a work so filled with blood, sweat, and tears. —Jack Helbig
