Here, a Shining Light

A commanding performance by Habib Rezayi anchors this visually stunning 2003 Iranian drama by Seyyed Reza Mir-Karimi. Rezayi plays a middle-aged simpleton looked after by his uncle, a caretaker at a remote mountain shrine. When the uncle takes ill and travels to town for an operation, the nephew fills in for him at the shrine and encounters the apparition of a flinty old miner, which strikes him as a sign from God and emboldens him in ways he never imagined. In Farsi with subtitles. 100 min.
