When: Thu., Dec. 18, 7 & 10 p.m., Fri., Dec. 19, 7 & 10 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 20, 7 & 10 p.m. 2008

The third annual Hideout Christmas Panto, an outpost of the British tradition of putting on a musical comedy in the pub at Christmastime, is titled Mutiny on the Beagle: A Darwinian Seafaring Romp in Search of the Jurassic Origins of Christmas. In honor of the 2009 Darwin bicentennial, the players will perform “the little-known story of the evolutionary biologist’s terrifying voyage on HMS Beagle and his amazing discoveries in the uncharted jungles of Christmas Island.” Directed by Sally Timms, the cast includes Tim Tuten as Charles Darwin, Jon Langford as Mrs. Ahab, and Mike Bulington as Sir Joseph Bonkers; Reader music writer Monica Kendrick has a bit part. Seating is limited to 60 people per show and much of it is on the floor seating, so bring a cushion. The early show each night is all-ages and “family friendly,” the late show 21+ and “less friendly.”

Price: $12, $5 for kids under 18
