History of House Music Part II with Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Crystal Waters, Mario Diaz, Robin S., Rochelle Fleming, Joe Smooth, Julian Perez, and the Chosen Few Early Warnings (Music) Recommended Soundboard

When: Sat., Oct. 11, 6 p.m. 2008

To load up Farley “Jackmaster” Funk’s MySpace page is to be smacked in the face with an intense combo of born-again Christian zeal and Pimp My Profile overkill, from the wallpaper’s bizarrely Photoshopped rendering of the Crucifixion to the gospel loop that defaults on the music player. But if you think on first blush that the progenitor of jacking house has gone and lost it, stick around a minute and wait for that gospel loop to unfold into a stomping collision of sincere praise and equally sincere hedonism that recalls Larry Levan’s classic choral-disco workouts. With a couple decades of house history in his crates, Farley’s sure to satisfy those who prefer to find their redemption in an 808 kick. Tonight’s event is billed as “History of House Part II” and features a host of familiar names from the old-school house scene, including Crystal Waters, Robin S, Julian Perez, Mario Diaz, and too many others to mention. —Miles Raymer
