Hitch*Cocktails | Annoyance Theatre | Improv/Sketch | Chicago Reader

When: Saturdays. Continues through April 27 2013

At each show, players under the direction of Stephanie McCullough Vlcek solicit an audience suggestion for something frightening, then seldom include it in scenes done in the style of an Alfred Hitchcock film.Three bottles are onstage—one filled with rum and Coke, another with vodka and Sprite, and another with red wine—and whenever a character is offered a drink, they have to finish it before the scene is done. The actors try to leave you spellbound with the frenzy of all that boozing, but Hitch*Cocktails ends up dialing D for drunk instead of mining any humor from this "improvised thrilled/drinking game." There isn't a shadow of a doubt that without alcohol, this would be nothing but rope and torn curtains. —Tal Rosenberg
