Home Alone 3

The politics of this slapstick vehicle don't need to be read in—you're hit over the head with them as surely as the villains are by everything the young hero catapults at or drops on them. Eight-year-old Alex (Alex Linz)—who's protecting his family's home and the American dream from criminals who mean to retrieve a stolen computer chip he doesn't know he has—is freakishly independent, resourceful, and precocious: he has an unerring ability to bend the laws of physics, and his knowledge about employers' rights to make demands on his parents' time might challenge that of some registered voters. Alex doesn't exactly shoot anyone with his realistic toy guns—his possession of which connotes no irony—but they come in handy during several defensive maneuvers. Written by John Hughes and directed by Raja Gosnell.
