Hotel de Chateau

When: Thursdays. Continues through Aug. 1 2013

The landlord of this dilapidated urban homestead has been threatening to kick everyone out for decades, but it's never been more than a bluff. Only now a bungling alderman with visions of an 80-floor multiplex is in on it. Hotel receptionist Ramona enlists her neighbor Tammy "No Panty," a hooker endowed with enough god-given sleaze to rule a small nation, in a shrewd but typical plot to persuade him to abandon his project. Structured by a journalistic principle—the interview—the first episode of this live sitcom might have met with more success if the reporter didn't grin so much at her own punch lines or chronically end scenes a few beats early. Further, the premise that depravity is always a cause for laughter entails a show that subsists too much on shock value. —Jena Cutie
