The sixth annual Hyde Park Jazz Festival features more than 40 performances at 13 different venues over the course of two days. On Sat 9/29, music begins at 1:30 PM and wraps up at 10 PM. The wide variety of shows includes Miguel Zenon at Rockefeller Chapel (11 PM, 5850 S. Woodlawn), Jason Adasiewicz's Sun Rooms at the Logan Center Performance Penthouse (9 PM, 915 E. 60th), the Pharez Whitted Quintet at Hyde Park Union Church (6:30 PM, 5600 S. Woodlawn), and the Dee Alexander Evolution Arkestra at the Logan Center Performance Hall (7 PM, 915 E. 60th). On Sun 9/30, music goes from 1 to 8 PM on two stages. Ari Brown Quintet, Eric Schneider Quintet, and Wycliffe Gordon Quintet all play at the James Wagner Stage, while the NIU Steel Band Ensemble and Greg Spero Quartet play on the West Stage (both stages are outdoors at the Midway Plaisance). All shows are free and all ages, though some of the smaller venues risk filling up to capacity. Admission for such spots is first come, first served, but for a donation of $125 you can get your hands on a Jazz Pass that gets you preferred seating for indoor shows. Donations of any size are accepted as well. This year the festival provides free shuttles between all the shows. For a complete lineup and venue list, visit hydeparkjazzfestival.org.
