I Love You Permanently Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays. Continues through Feb. 10 2012

"This is not one of my perfect breakup fantasies," Lee tells her sister at the start of Barrie Cole's one-act, presented here as part of Rhinofest. She's kidding herself. Having invited ex-lover Jay over, Lee attempts to free herself of him in a manner that will yield consummate closure: by experiencing their entire relationship in a single evening. Though the pair's comic coping mechanisms—interpretive dancing, singing—make a kind of sense, Lee and Jay themselves aren't sympathetic in their suffering. Before long you just want to shake them. But H.B. Ward's Jay won't come back, and Amy Eaton's Lee won't move on, and the audience is stuck with them in a cramped apartment of unrealized dreams. —Marissa Oberlander
