I Spy

The half-forgotten 60s series I Spy is notable for having introduced a supercool Bill Cosby to dramatic television. Eddie Murphy takes over in this big-budget movie version, and while his arrogant badass is the inverse of Cosby's poker-faced persona, it's about the only thing this dull action comedy has going for it. Owen Wilson, in the Robert Culp role, is a whiny, gee-whiz secret agent paired with Murphy to track down a U.S. spy plane that's fallen into the hands of a nefarious arms dealer in Budapest (Malcolm McDowell, cell phoning it in). Betty Thomas (The Brady Bunch Movie) directed. 96 min.
