If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through June 7 2014

Despite touching on two hot-button issues—bullying and climate change—Nick Payne's 2009 drama about a quietly hurting British family remains wan and unfocused. What plot there is centers on a schlumpy, overweight teen named Anna, who's picked on at school and ignored at home. Her mom is a brittle schoolteacher; dad's a repressed academic working on a book about carbon footprints. The only adult who takes an interest in Anna is her uncle, Terry, but his rage and recklessness make him a poor role model. Jonathan Berry's staging is as bloodless as the script for most of its 110 intermissionless minutes. The exception is Shane Kenyon, who brings charisma and some much-needed danger to the role of Anna's ne'er-do-well uncle. —Zac Thompson
