I'm Spiritual, Dammit! The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: First Friday-Sunday of every month. Continues through Feb. 1 2009

Based on its title, you'd think Jenniffer Weigel's solo autobiographical show takes an ironic look at the former entertainment reporter's search for enlightenment. You'd be wrong. First, Weigel's quest has more to do with spiritualism than the spiritual: she's out to contact the dead--especially her dead dad, local TV sportscaster Tim Weigel. And though she often uses a wised-up tone, Weigel is stunningly credulous, never seriously questioning what she learns--especially if she learned it from Oprah. Most important, there's no evidence of introspection here. Weigel fails to confront the essential issue of what makes her so anxious to talk to ghosts. People lose fathers all the time. Why can't she let hers go? She gives no hint of wondering. --Tony Adler
