In Absurdum The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Aug. 16 2009

Joe Mazza's ingenious solo puppet piece The Hyperbolist--about a pretentious, loquacious, preposterously cynical humanoid sending a dust rag out into the world to bring back one example of true love--was the highlight of the Building Stage's Objects in Motion festival last winter. Now the Building Stage has given Mazza his own evening, and he's divided the same short work into three sections separated by two unfortunate new puppet pieces from One Flea Circus--a group that creates intriguing images (a tiny boat sailing in a suitcase full of water) only to waste them (dragging the boat around the stage). Mazza attempts to expand the Hyperbolist saga with some hit-and-miss video, but his puppetry skills make everything else feel superfluous. --Justin Hayford
