In Love and Warcraft Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 20 2015

Evie is a college student who socializes exclusively through online fantasy and has zero interest in physical sex. Raul is a desperately horny classmate who thinks computer games are a waste of time. So why the hell are they dating? These two don't need to uproot their lives, they need Tinder. Madhuri Shekar's clumsy romantic comedy tries to spark humor out of smashing opposites together, but it becomes borderline problematic when it never makes a case for why Evie's asexuality needs to be "cured" to begin with. Siobhan Reddy-Best fleshes out the two-dimensional gamer and makes for a charming couple with Kroydell Galima's Raul. It doesn't much matter comedically in Tlaloc Rivas's Halcyon Theatre production, though, when Shekar's dialogue is a cloying loop of arcane World of Warcraft jargon role-playing as a joke. —Dan Jakes
