Dear Reader:

Just a few lines about the Michael McGuire injury claim ["Burned," April 28]. I have been a City of Chicago employee for 32 years and I have seen a number of cuties try to screw the taxpayers out of an undeserved pension. He hurt himself playing games and now he wants the taxpayers to give him 75 percent of his salary for the rest of his life. He worked for the city less than four years, and he expects us to feel sorry for him because he is accident-prone and clumsy.

Thank you fire department pension board members and especially Miriam Santos. You have restored my faith in bureaucracies.
