In Search of Identity

Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai interviews a cross section of American Jews, from the rich (the Levi Strauss family) and famous (Harlan Ellison, I.F. Stone, Saul Bellow) to rabbis, radical activists, and a county clerk in the Colorado mountains. With his disarming manner Gitai often catches his subjects off guard, and their unexpected revelations as he questions them about their religion, their cultural identity, and their feelings toward Israel make this 1982 video montage of talking heads much more fascinating than you might expect. 50 min.
