In/Corporate (Five Tales of Anxiety) Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Mondays-Thursdays. Continues through Feb. 2 2012

If I worked at any of the offices featured in this collection of five ten-minute plays, my water-cooler gripe wouldn't be anxiety. It'd be boredom. For all their agonies, the corporate drones depicted here have very little on the line. An exec can't figure out how to communicate with his secretary over an intercom. A manager demands punishment from his underlings for his own complacency. Those are workable premises, but they're left in a crude and abstract state. Nor do the contributing playwrights supply the ideas necessary to justify their absurdist dialogue. Without strong intentions, believable stakes, or interesting thoughts, there's little reason to care about the characters' daily grind, let alone watch it. —Dan Jakes
