Inherit the Whole Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 2 p.m. Continues through June 27 2010

Three brothers converge on their dead father's Colorado cabin and are confronted by a messy legacy in this ambitious first full-length production from Mortar Theatre. Playwright Dana Lynn Formby sketches the siblings--survivors of abuse and war--with clear-eyed authenticity, but relies exhaustingly on gun-waving emotional pyrotechnics to move things along. Similarly, Jason Boat directs his cast with the frenzy of a single-engine airplane pilot desperate to stay above stall speed. The shouting finally abates after intermission, allowing the talented actors to delve into the nuances of kinship and inheritance. For all its problems, this is a promising effort that gets a lot of things right. --Keith Griffith
